The Civaly Action Toolbox (CAT) is a set of customized tools and techniques for developing product and service solutions with a group. With over 5,000 hours of facilitation experience, we have developed a powerful and effective practice of supporting groups of all ages and backgrounds. Our facilitators are professionals, with academic backgrounds and original research in the field of education.
Developed by our team at Columbia University and refined over 15 years, the CAT is a unique intellectual and social structure for supporting innovation through collaboration. Each CAT includes customized supports for all stages of collaborative design, while encompassing “the four D’s”:
- Discovery
- Definition
- Development

From middle school students to design professionals, our process and support materials help everyone improve their collaborative design practice. Experiencing collaborative design with Civaly facilitators will help each individual in your organization better understand the roles and responsibilities of collaboration, and get personalized feedback to enhance their problem-solving skillset.
